Food For Thought
Was having a chat with depressed G about LTB grades and this topic about grades being everything or anything at all came in naturally once again. Apparently he was feeling depressed over getting that grade (which I got too). He said it was unfair because he is sure he did more work than any of my group mates because we split up our work so fairly while he did so much for his group to get that kind of grade. To add on it, 2 other members got a grade better, not to mention the others whom I wonder if I would even call them his group mates. So that explains the depression.
As for me, I wasn't feeling good about that grade but I had no one to blame but to lament on not doing well for my quiz2 which turned out to cost quite me quite alot (and probably my paired assignment didn't turn out well too). But well, I live with the consequence and tried to look on the brighter side. I did not get my A, but hey, I got 'A' friends from LTB. =)
Grades- how important are they and how much can they influence how you feel?
I guess it is different for everyone. Different expectations (from yourself and other people - will never forget how Ms Phua changed how I feel for not getting my A1), different attitudes towards studies, some worry about keeping their scholarship, some are aiming for dean's list, some just can't swallow their pride without knowing that they are the top fews, and the list goes on.
Bleah, paper chasing. Sucks.
In actual fact, it is reality which suck.
I am still a firm believer of "You reap what you sow". If you don't find yourself reaping what you sow, then probably your way of sowing was wrong? Or you over-estimated how much you sowed? (have you used the correct confidence interval? hurhur) Or perhaps, that's the wrong plot of land. And that is a mistake to be learnt.
Grades are important and bring you happiness. But I'm sure there are so many more things which can bring you happiness.
